5 Places to Elope in Austin, TX

It might be a little obvious for me to say this, but I love Austin. I think it is such a beautiful place to call home, so I also think is a wonderful place to start your new chapter with the love of your life - even if is only the first step in your whole journey together.

I always joke that Austin gives me the feeling of a small town in a big city, and maybe that’s why I love this place so much. Capital of the State and the home of University of Texas, with the big tech hubs that has been growing here over the past few years, Austin still carries the feeling of small town with the super sweet southern people, all the green scenarios, the live music scene, the lakes, the dog friendly places everywhere and the amazing food, that makes this “weird” city a really special place to start the rest of your lives together.

Places to elope in this vibrant and laid-back city are not lacking, you can choose places all the way from nature moods with a river crossing, to the eclectic vibes of the Capital of Music. Here it is a little selection of places that I personally love and think you could love too:

Sekrit Theater

Okay, this might be my favorite one - that’s why is the first one here hehe. But, seriously, this place is the cutest little old glass house surrounded by the green of East Austin Greenbelt that’s just by the venue. I personally love the vintage and kind of fairytale vibe of this gem location, and it can be perfect for those either wishing to elope in town only the two of them or having a small intimate wedding.

Chapel Dulcinea

This small wedding chapel in the heart of Texas is a free wedding chapel - yes, you read it right, celebrate your perfect day in this cute venue for FREE! To get even better, this ancient little gem is on the top of the hills which makes the views incredible beautiful and only 20 minutes away from downtown Austin. Although the chapel is free, donations are always welcome since it helps them guarantee access for more couples to have their perfect day, more affordable.

Texas State Capitol

If you are the kind of people that love architecture beauty and history, you might love to celebrate your big day at Texas State Capitol building + it gets even better when to have a ceremony in the Capitol lawn you don’t even need to rent the space or pay any fees, as long as it’s a small wedding you’re good to go! If you would like to have photos taken inside of the building, you’re also welcome to, but no set up can be done indoors.

Zilker Botanical Garden

Ah… Of course, our beloved Zilker is on the list! The Botanical Garden is in the heart of Austin, and is absolutely lovely to have your intimate ceremony at, it can host up to 75 people depending which location in the Garden you choose + you have tons of options to where take your bridal portraits at! Rental spaces for the ceremony are available indoors and outdoors, and you can find more information by calling them at 512-477-8672.

Hamilton Pool

Last but not least, Hamilton Pool is a land mark of Austin when comes to it’s nature aspect - and omg, tell me if this blue water isn’t so perfect?! - is great for those seeking a more intimate ceremony in the middle of the nature and paying really little for it! Oh, yeah, you only need to pay for a normal reservation time slot per group of 8, which is only $12. Just keep in mind that this “venue” is a public space, so no set up is allowed and it requires permits for everyone visiting, which means slots are taken fast.

Mount Bonnel

This is an update since I originally wrote this post. I got married at Mount Bonnell December 2021, so since then this became my favorite elopement place in Austin, Texas! The natural beauty looking over the river + most beautiful sunset in the city makes this sweet spot a perfect place to tie the knot with your love. And to get even better, it’s free, literally just arrive there at the top and make it official! The only downside I’d say is, be prepared to have a lot of strangers as witness of your wedding lol. But honestly, once you’re there you don’t notice anyone since your focus is completely on your other half and the best day of life. We didn’t notice anyone until we turned around after been announced - which our officiant make sure to do for the whole Mount to hear - and that’s when we saw all those happy strangers faces clapping for us.

Yey! You made to the end of our list! Of course Austin still have so many more places to offer to make the best day of your life really memorable, these are just a few of what I think are my favorite spots, and I would love to know what you think about them.

As always, I’m here for you all the way, and I hope I could help you on your search a little bit! I’d love to hear from you soon and if you have more ideas that could make into this list, I’d love to hear about.

xoxo,
Amandha
