Timeless Chautauqua Park Engagement Photos with a Colorado Engagement Photographer
Photographing Holly and Mike’s Chautauqua Park Engagement Photos was such a blast! These two are planning their wedding here in Colorado next year, but since they live out of state, this was our first time meeting in person, and I’m so glad we made it happen! Connecting with your photographer before the wedding day is so valuable! It gives us a chance to chat, get comfortable together, and ease any nerves about being in front of the camera. When you work with me as your Colorado wedding photographer, having that session beforehand makes a big difference. I get to learn what makes you laugh, how you connect, and the little moments that make your relationship unique. By the time your wedding day arrives, it all flows naturally, and your photos feel authentic, effortless, and truly you.
Why I Love Chautauqua Park for Engagement Sessions
Chautauqua Park is one of the best spots for engagement photos in Boulder, and one of my personal favorites. With those iconic Flatiron views, open meadows, and easy mountain trails all in one place, it’s perfect for couples traveling from out of state. You don’t have to hike far to find breathtaking scenery, which makes the experience super relaxed and enjoyable! Holly and Mike had the most effortless session as they walked the trails, spinning and smiling and sharing so many candid moments in between. The light was stunning too, giving their photos a bright, timeless feel.
The Perks of Hiring a Local Colorado Engagement Photographer
When you work with a local photographer like me, it makes a huge difference for out-of-state couples. I know which locations photograph best at different times of day, where the light hits just right, and how to avoid the crowds (Chautauqua can get busy, especially on weekends). I also help plan your session around local conditions, from weather patterns to parking and trail logistics, so you can show up, relax, and fully enjoy the experience without stress.
Plus, having the same photographer for both your engagement session and your wedding is a game-changer. We get to build that trust and connection early, so by your wedding day, it’s all flow, laughter, and effortless moments captured authentically.
Tips for Engagement Sessions When You’re From Out of State
If you’re traveling for your engagement session, here are a few tips to make it smooth and fun:
Plan ahead with your photographer. We can chat through location options, lighting, and what to pack for Colorado’s changing weather.
Schedule your session around your wedding venue visit. If you’re visiting for wedding planning, combine it with your engagement session to make the most of your trip.
Stay flexible. The weather here changes fast, and a flexible mindset often leads to some of the best, most spontaneous photos.
Drink a lot of water prior to the session date and give yourselves time to get accustomed to the higher altitude, especially if you come from a state closer to sea level.
Turn it into a mini getaway. Boulder (and all of Colorado) is full of amazing restaurants, trails, and local spots. Make a weekend of it and enjoy the scenery while celebrating your engagement!
A Boulder Wedding
Getting to photograph Holly and Mike’s engagement session made me even more excited for their Boulder wedding next year! Capturing their natural connection and sharing in their excitement reminded me exactly why I love what I do.
Being able to meet before the wedding, see how they interact, and witness their love in action ensures that their wedding day photos will feel genuine and full of joy.
It’s such an honor to photograph couples at every stage of their story, from that first engagement or couples session to the day they say “I do” and beyond!
