Scotland Destination Wedding at Dalhousie Castle
Margaret and Alex's Scotland destination wedding at Dalhousie Castle was a dream come true, and it was my first international wedding experience! It was such an honor to be part of this incredible destination celebration. Planning a wedding from afar can be tricky, especially when you don’t have a lot of local connections, but I was so excited to assist them with finding trusted vendors and making sure every detail came together perfectly. Now, I'm excited to take on more international weddings and help couples around the world bring their dream day to life!
A Heartwarming Love Story Years in the Making
Margaret and Alex have been together for as long as any of their friends can remember. They started dating in high school and have been inseparable ever since! I’ve known Margaret and Alex for years through my husband, who has been friends with Alex since middle school. When they started planning their wedding, Margaret mentioned they were thinking about getting married in the UK, where Alex’s family is from. She joked that I’d definitely be their photographer, but at that point, I didn’t really believe it would happen.
Fast forward to earlier this year, when Alex reached out to my husband for my info to chat about photographing their wedding, I was freaking out with excitement! They ended up booking me, and I couldn’t have been more honored. Since I was attending as a guest, I hired an associate shooter to cover the reception while I focused on the ceremony and portraits. It was my first time working with someone I knew personally (plus, my first destination wedding in Scotland!), and it definitely added an extra layer of pressure to get everything just right. But even with all the nerves, the experience was absolutely amazing—and one of my favorite weddings to date!
Scotland Destination Wedding in the Heart of Edinburgh’s Dalhousie Castle
Their wedding took place at the stunning Dalhousie Castle, just outside of Edinburgh, and it truly felt like something straight out of a fairytale. From the historic charm of the castle to the unique touches they included, it was absolutely magical. During cocktail hour, a bagpipe player set the perfect Scottish vibe, while an owl delivered their rings during the ceremony—so cool, right?! Guests even had the chance to meet the owl afterward. Their ceremony was in the castle’s beautiful chapel, and the reception was held in its elegant formal rooms. Lots of their friends, including us, stayed at the castle the night before, making the whole experience even more special! I’m so grateful for this job and the many unforgettable, once-in-a-lifetime experiences it has brought me—like this one! Someone pinch me!
