A Local Guide to the Best Family Photo Session Locations Near Denver

One of my favorite parts about photographing families around Denver is how many gorgeous spots are just a short drive away. You don’t need to spend hours in the car or hike for miles to get family photos with amazing views. What really matters is picking a place that fits your family. Some spots are perfect for little ones who want to run around and explore. Others are better if your kids are a little older and up for more adventure. These are some of my go-to family photo session locations within about an hour of Denver.

Family Photoshoot Locations Near Denver

South Valley Park (featured family photo session)

South Valley Park is one of my favorites for families who want wide open space and a little bit of that Colorado foothills feel without a long drive. There’s so much room to explore and let kids just be kids.

Mount Falcon Park

Mount Falcon Park is such a good option if you want beautiful views without turning your session into a full-blown hike. This spot works beautifully for families who love an adventurous feel but still want the session to stay relaxed and doable with kids.

Hudson Gardens

Beautiful greenery and peaceful spots make Hudson Gardens feel so calm and magical. Great for families who want a more polished, garden-inspired vibe while keeping it relaxed and kid-friendly.

People’s Crossing Park

This hidden gem has open fields, creekside spots, and wide walking paths, making it the perfect family photoshoot location for those who want a mix of playful movement and peaceful scenery. It’s easy to get to and the variety of settings gives plenty of options for natural, candid moments.

Red Rocks

Red Rocks is seriously something else. Those giant red rocks and open spaces make every photo feel cinematic and full of energy. This spot is amazing for families with older kids who can handle a little walking on uneven terrain, but honestly, the views make it totally worth it.

Lookout Mountain

Lookout Mountain is perfect if you want mountain vibes without going too far. As you walk, the views keep changing and it naturally feels like a little adventure. It’s such a fun spot for families who love exploring together and letting the kids roam while I capture those in-between moments.

Golden Gate Canyon State Park

Golden Gate Canyon feels like a little getaway without actually going far. There’s so much variety here, and it’s great for families who want their session to feel a bit more adventurous while still keeping things fun and relaxed.

Lair o’ the Bear Park

This location is perfect for families who don’t want to overthink it. There’s space to wander, laugh, and let things unfold in the most natural way.

At-Home Sessions (Intimate & Documentary-Style)

Sometimes the best photos happen right where life actually happens, in your home. These sessions are perfect for families who want real, emotional moments without the stress of traveling. We can dance in the living room, play in the backyard, or simply enjoy snack breaks together. No posing, no pressure, just your family as you are right now.

How We Choose the Right Family Photo Session Location Together

Choosing a family photo session location isn’t about finding the β€œmost popular” spot. It’s about finding what actually works for your family.

Some families want wide open space. Others love gardens. Some want to stay close to home. All of that matters, and that’s why I help guide you through the decision so your session feels fun, relaxed, and totally doable.
